The 2nd session of the Infrachain challenge is focused on the Public Sector Blockchain developed by the Ministry for Digitalisation and on digital credentials and wallets. Teams have 30 hours to develop an innovative project based on the Public Sector Blockchain and code a working demo. Each team gets 5 minutes to pitch their project in front of a jury and convince them that their solution is the best.

Today, a lot of official documents are still exchanged as (scanned) paper documents between public authorities and the private sector, public authorities and citizens or within the public sector itself. These documents can for example be certificates issued by banks or insurance companies, subsidies requests, certificates of residence, customs documents, … The public sector can be an issuer of information (e.g., diploma, certificate of residence, driving licence …) or a verifier (e.g., proof or purchase of an electrical vehicle or of solar panels to receive subsides).

Paper documents need to be encoded – often manually – with all the downsides this encompasses: encoding errors, unstructured data, increased costs, fraud, … Also the verifier has little or no means to check the authenticity of data.

The challenge is to creatively reimagine these (scanned) paper based exchanges of trusted data, into a digital world with decentralised trust anchors (ie. blockchains) to enable fast, secure and trusted exchanges of verifiable structured data, without compromising privacy and giving users control over their data. We expect your team to ideate and develop a proof of concept (PoC) DApp running on the public sector blockchain (PSB), that demonstrates a novel, and user-friendly way of information exchange.
